For the vast majority of people, gambling is a pleasurable part of their leisure activities, but for a small number of players, problems do arise.

Whilst research suggests there isn't a specific type of person who may develop harm from gambling, the risks are there and so to assist it’s good to know some of the signs to look for:

Signs of gambling harm can include:

  • Begging for money
  • Falling asleep at a machine or table
  • Asking to be excluded
  • Admitting to gambling concerns or requesting support in relation to gambling
  • Leaving children unattended while gambling
  • Another person is concerned, for example a friend or family member
  • Severe distress (including Suicide ideation)
  • Exhibiting distresses, irritative or depressive behaviour while at SkyCity (e.g., shaking, swearing to themselves or crying)
  • A noticeable decline in personal grooming or appearance over several days
  • Aggressive behaviour towards team members, gaming products or other patrons (e.g., blaming others for losses or becoming angry if someone takes their spot in the venue)
  • Directing team members not to tell others that they are at the casino and/or avoiding contact with others
  • Unrealistic remarks about gambling, including belief that skill can determine outcomes.
  • A significant change in money or time spent gambling • Repeatedly withdrawing money (3 or more occasions in a session) from an ATM or by electronic transfer
  • Requesting credit or asking to borrow money from the venue or from other customers
  • Starting to gamble when the casino opens and only stopping when the casino is closing
  • Repeatedly being approached for long stay times at 9.5, 11 and leading into 12 hours or a request to leave SkyCity Adelaide premises and/or repeatedly being stood down for 24 hours due breaching the SkyCity Adelaide continuous presence policy
  • Spending more money than they could reasonably afford.
  • Complains to team members about their losses
